Argonauta

Nature is a profound source of inspiration for my work. For this project, I explored natural forms of packaging found in underwater life. Egg shells, turtle shells, and exoskeletons, much like product packaging, provide structure, protection, and support for what they hold within. The experimental process has led to a packaging designed for a silver broche in the shape of an octopus

My main reference for this project became the Argonauta egg case, also known as the Paper Nautilus. Created by the female Argonauta octopus after laying her eggs, this delicate structure functions not only as a protective chamber, but also as a buoyant vessel that allows the octopus to move through the water.

Origami and paper were used to reference the delicate, shell-like egg case of the Paper Nautilus and to recreate its high–low relief. The sculptural folds keep the focus on the product inside, while pattern and color are loosely inspired by the natural surface and palette. Darker tones emphasize depth, lighter hues highlight the form, and the origami unfolds to reveal the same gradient used on the exterior.
